Pre-Conference Workshop

Led by:

Keith Mallinson, Founder, WiseHarbor, USA
Paul H. Vishny, Of Counsel member of Seyfarth Shaw LLP, Outside General Counsel for TIA and Chair of its IPR Standing Committee
Michael Kellogg, Senior Legal Advisor, KPN Netherlands

Mobile communications is rich with patented technological innovations from a wide variety of contributors. The amount of Intellectual Property (IP) and the number of applicable patents is likely increasing with next generation developments in LTE. Much of this IP is "essential" and must-by definition-be used in implementing the standard. In addition, as mobile devices and services become more powerful and diverse in their capabilities, there is an increasing amount of patented IP that is non-essential to the standard that various vendors would also like to use.

This workshop will examine:

  • How and upon what terms IP is being contributed and will be made available to those who wish to manufacture and sell products and services that comply with the emerging LTE standard.
  • How will the balance to be struck between the interests of licensors, licensees and among many players who are both?
  • How will all the patent rights holders, manufacturers and service providers reconcile their different interests and resolve the various complex licensing issues for LTE?

Who Will Benefit?

CxO, VP, Business Development Staff from network operators, infrastructure providers, chipset and device manufacturers, Regulatory Bodies, Network Architects, Network Planning Engineers, Deployment and Optimisation Technicians and Academics
